【1】比较

 

①【例】If you make a comparison between the two samples, you will see which is of better quality.如对两种样品作一比较，你就可以看出哪一种质量较好。

 

②comparison前可加定语，后面常接用with或to，但以用with为较普通。

【例】We request you to make a careful comparison of these goods with those you are now buying elsewhere.

我们要求你们将这些货物同你们现在从其他地方购买的货物进行仔细的比较。

 

【2】比较

 

【例】As to our footwear our clients in the USA request that we send a delegation to their country to make comparison with competitive products.

美国的客户要求我们派遣代表团到该国，将我方的鞋子与竞争对手的鞋子作些比较。

 

【3】by comparison比较起来

 

【例】This one costs more but is less expensive by comparison.

这一种价钱贵一点，但比较起来还是便宜的。

 

【4】in comparison with同……比较

 

【例】They agree to repair the machine as the time and money involved is small in comparison with the importance of keeping a customer satisfied.

他们同意修理机器，因为所花的时间和金钱同使顾客满意的重要性比较起来，是微乎其微的。

 

【5】stand [bear] comparison with比得上，不亚于

 

【例】We may well say that our goods can stand comparison with any other brands.

我们完全可以说，我们的产品能比得上任何其他商标的同类产品。

 

compel

强迫，迫使

 

【例】The accident in our factory compelled us to postpone the delivery of your order.

我们工厂的事故迫使我们不得不延迟交货。

 

compensate

【1】赔偿，补偿

 

①【例】Many factories compensate their workers if they are hurt at work.

对工人工伤，许多工厂都抚恤赔偿。

 

②说明因何赔偿，要用for引起。

【例】The insurance company will undertake to compensate you for the losses according to the risks covered.

保险公司将按照投保险别负责赔偿损失。

 

【2】compensate for赔偿，补偿

 

【例】Your prices are slightly higher than we had expected but as the quality was also higher than we had expected, then the one thing compensates for the other.

你方价格比我们预料的要高一点，不过质量也比我们预料的要好，因此失之一方由另一方得到了补偿。
