【1】双重的

 

double后的名词不必因double有“双”的意思而用复数。

【例】All these woolen piece goods are double width.

所有这些呢绒都是双幅的。

 

【2】两倍的

 

all，both，half以及double，twice，three times等倍数词语（multipliers）在英语语法中皆称为前限定词（predeterminers），它们在名词短语中皆应置于a，the，this，that，these，those，my，your等限定词之前。

【例】International corporate operations are now growing at double the rate [at double of the rate] of economic growth of the industrialized nations.

国际公司业务部门（的数量）正在按工业化国家经济增长率的一倍的速度增长。

【例】We doubled our output in this department last year.

去年我们这个部门产量翻了一番。

 

doubt

怀疑，不相信

 

①【例】We doubt the importer’s credit position.

我们不相信这家进口商的信用状况。

 

②在以doubt为谓语的否定句中，可接用that从句。

【例】We don’t doubt that your quality is superior, but your price is too high.

我们不否认你方产品质量优越，但价格太高。

 

③在以doubt为谓语的肯定句或疑问句中，可接用that从句或以if（或whether）引导的从句。

【例】I doubt if (whether) they will place the order.

我怀疑他们是否要下订单。
