【1】封袋

 

①【例】Copies of the relative shipping documents are being air mailed to you in a separate cover together with the operation manual.

有关的装船单据副本连同操作手册已另行航邮寄去。

 

②under cover（附在信中）和under separate cover（在另函或另包内）已形成习惯用语（idioms），其中cover前不用冠词。

【例】We have received, under cover, a detailed pricelist of light industrial goods available for export.

随同来函，我们已经收到可供出口的轻工业品价目明细表一份。

 

【2】保险

 

【例】We have arranged the necessary insurance cover.

我们已进行了必要的保险。

 

【3】包括

 

①【例】The prices quoted in the brochure cover packing and are subject to 35% trade discount.小册子所列的价格包括包装费在内，可有35%的商业折扣。

 

②过去分词用作定语。

【例】We are pleased to inform you that the goods covered by your L/C No.1002 has been placed on board s.s. “Peace”.

我们愉快地通知你方，第1002号信用证项下的货物已装和平号轮。

 

【4】适应

 

【例】No doubt there must have been some reason for the delay in shipment. To cover this contingency we e-mailed you on July 15 that we were extending the L/C for two weeks.

无疑，一定有某种原因致使装船延误。为应付这一意外事件，我们已于7月15日电邮通知你方，将信用证展期两周。

 

【5】购进

 

①常用requirements作宾语。

【例】If you insist on your original quotation, we will have to cover our requirements elsewhere.如你方坚持原报价，则我们不得不从其他方面购进我们需要的货品。

 

②用其动名词短语。

【例】We advise you to lose no time in covering your season’s requirements.

我们劝贵方赶紧购置季节性需要的货品。

 

【6】偿付，负担

 

【例】My travel allowance won’t cover the trip.

我的差旅津贴不足以偿付旅行开支。

 

【7】投保，给……保险

 

①cover与insure同样，可用被保险人或被保险的货物做宾语。

【例】Please cover [insure] for us the following commodities: ...

请为我方下列商品保险：……

 

②过去分词用作宾语的补语。

【例】Please hold us covered for [on] the commodities listed on the attached list.

请对附表所列商品为我方投保。

 

③现在分词用作后置定语。

【例】Enclosed you will find one copy of our insurance certificate covering All Risks and War Risk.

随函寄去我方投保一切险和战争险的保险凭证的副本一份，请查收。

 

【8】cover oneself使（自己）得到抵偿

 

【例】In order to cover [reimburse] yourselves for the expenses, you may draw on us at 90 days’ sight.

为了收取费用，你方可开来90天期的汇票。

【1】承保险别（总称），保险范围

 

【例】We want a policy with a more extensive coverage.

我们需要范围较广泛的保险单。

 

【2】投保额

 

【例】Regarding insurance, the coverage is for 110% of the invoice value up to the port of destination.

关于保险，按110%的发票金额投保，至目的港止。

 

【3】保险

 

【例】There is a wide variety of standard types of coverage.

有各式各样的标准险别。

 

covering

【1】关于

 

covering所引导的短语，可置于名词（或名词性词组）之后，作定语。

【例】The Letter of Credit covering the above-mentioned goods will be established immediately.关于上述货物的信用证将立即开出（注：此句中的cover也可译成“购买”）。

 

【2】有关的

 

仅用作前置定语。

【例】The Buyer shall establish the covering Letter of Credit before May 15.

买主应于5月15日之前开立有关的信用证。
