结果与预料恰好相反。

 

【2】on the contrary相反，反之

 

【例】Stocks there are not ample; on the contrary, they are running short.

那里存货并不充裕，恰恰相反，而是日渐减少。

 

【3】to the contrary相反的，相反地

 

用作定语或状语。

【例】If there is no evidence to the contrary, the seller should pay for the damage.

如果没有相反的证据，卖方应偿付破损所造成的损失。

【1】by contrast相比之下

 

【例】A favourable balance of trade is when a nation’s exports exceed its imports. By contrast, an unfavourable balance of trade occurs when imports are greater than exports.

一个国家的出口额大于进口额时，其贸易平衡就是顺差。与此形成对照的，进口额大于出口额时就出现贸易平衡的逆差。

 

【2】in contrast与之形成对比地，相反地

 

【例】In contrast, the lives of girls in well-to-do families were often very sheltered

相反，生活在富裕家庭的女孩子通常都备受呵护。

 

【3】in contrast with [to] 与……形成对比

 

【例】In contrast with [to] your belief that their firm will go bankrupt, we are sure that it will prosper.

你们相信他们的商行要破产；与此形成对比的是我们相信该商行要兴隆发达。

 

【4】使形成对照

 

宾语后常接用with，句式：contrast A with B。

【例】If you contrast their products with ours, you may find out that our products are of superior quality.

如果你们把他们的产品同我们的产品对比一下，你们就会发现我们产品的质量好一些。

有助于，促进

 

后面常接用to sth或to doing sth，很少接动词不定式。

【例】You know that the appearance of the package contributes greatly to the sale of consumer goods.

你们知道，消费品包装的外观对销售有很大促进作用。
