Stress-timed

重音合拍

A very general term used in phonetics to characterize the pronunciation of languages displaying a particular type of rhythm; it is opposed to syllable-timed languages. In stress-timed languages, it is claimed that the stressed syllables recur at regular intervals of time (stress-timing), regardless of the number of intervening unstressed syllables, as in English. This characteristic is referred to as ‘isochronism’, or isochrony. However, it is plain that this regularity is the case only under certain conditions.

语音学的一个通用术语,用来描写一类语言的发音有特殊类型的节奏;与音节合拍对立。按这种对立,重音合拍语言是重读音节按一定的时间间隔出现,不管中间的非重读音节的数目多少,例如英语。这个特点称作等音长。但这种规律显然只在某些条件下成立。
