今天我们相聚于此，共同见证为国际著名地学科学家、澳大利亚科学院院士、麦考瑞大学杰出教授苏·欧瑞莉女士颁授2020年度中华人民共和国国际科学技术合作奖。我谨向所有莅临的澳科技界人士、政府部门代表和媒体朋友表示热烈欢迎和诚挚感谢。
Today we gather here to witness the presentation of 2020 International Science and Technology Cooperation Award of the People’s Republic of China to Professor Sue O’Reilly, internationally renowned geoscientist, Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science and Distinguished Professor of Macquarie University. I would like to extend my warm welcome and sincere thanks to all guests from the Australian scientific community, representatives of government departments and friends from media present here today.
中华人民共和国国际科学技术合作奖是中国国务院1994年设立的国家级年度奖项，授予对中国科学技术事业做出重要贡献的外国专家或外国组织。2021年11月3日中国国务院发布《关于2020年度国家科学技术奖励的决定》，授予包括欧瑞莉教授在内的外国专家国际科技合作奖。
International Science and Technology Cooperation Award of the People’s Republic of China is a state-level annual award established by the State Council of China in 1994. It is conferred on foreign experts or organizations that have made important contributions to China’s science and technology development. On 3 November 2021, the State Council issued the “Decision on National Science and Technology Awards in 2020”, announcing foreign experts including Professor O’Reilly as the recipients of the International Science and Technology Cooperation Award.
欧瑞莉教授是推动中澳科技交流合作的典范。自1982年以来，欧瑞莉教授一直致力于与中国高校及科研院所开展地学合作研究，为中国地学科技发展和中国与国际地学界的交流与合作作出了重要贡献。在长达40年的时间里，她多次访问中国，深入边远山区，不畏工作、生活条件艰苦，诠释了淡泊名利、求真务实的科学家精神，体现了她跨越国界追求理想的宽广胸襟和对中国的深厚情怀和友谊。
Professor O’Reilly epitomizes the two-way endeavors to promote China-Australia exchanges and cooperation in science and technology. Since 1982, Professor O’Reilly has been committed to research collaborations in geosciences with Chinese universities and institutes, and made important contributions to the development of China’s geosciences and the exchanges and cooperation between the Chinese and international geoscience community. In the past 40 years, she has made many visits to China, some of which were deep into remote mountainous areas. She fears not poor working and living conditions, and demonstrates the spirit of a scientist who looks past fame and fortune in search of facts and truths. What she represents is a broad-mindedness to pursue ideals across national borders, and deep feelings and friendship for China.
今天，我荣幸地在此代表中国政府向欧瑞莉教授颁授合作奖奖章及证书。这体现了中国政府对欧瑞莉教授为中澳科技交流与合作所作贡献的高度肯定，也表达了中国人民对澳大利亚友人的崇高敬意。
Today, on behalf of the Chinese government, I have the honor to present the medal and certificate to Professor O’Reilly. This award attests to the Chinese government’s high recognition of Professor O’Reilly’s contributions to China-Australia exchanges and cooperation in science and technology, and Chinese people’s high respect for a friend from Australia.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
早在中澳建交前的上世纪六十年代，两国科技界就开启了交流与合作之门。回首过去，中澳科技合作促进了各自科技事业和经济社会的发展，为两国人民带来了实实在在的好处，也成为加深彼此认知的桥梁、促进共同繁荣的引擎、增进两国人民友谊的纽带。
As early as 1960s, well before the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Australia, the door was opened for exchanges and cooperation in science and technology between our two countries. Looking back at the past, our cooperation has promoted the advancement of science and technology undertakings and economic and social development of the two countries, and tangible benefits have been brought to the people of both our countries as well. They have also served as a bridge to deepen mutual understanding, an engine to promote common prosperity, and a bond to enhance friendship between our two peoples.
当今世界，各国利益交融、休戚与共。科学无国界，加强科技交流与合作、共享创新成果符合世界各国人民的共同利益，符合时代和平发展、合作共赢的潮流。中澳都是崇尚创新、勇于创造的国家，双方科技交流合作基础良好，高度互补，拥有巨大的合作空间和发展潜力。展望未来，中方愿与澳方一道继续推动科技交流合作，让更多合作成果造福两国和两国人民，为促进全球科技事业发展，增进全人类共同福祉做出更大贡献。
In today’s world, with converging interests and shared destiny of all countries, advancing science and technology exchanges and cooperation is in the interests of the international community and in conformity with the trend of times that is peaceful development and win-win cooperation. Both China and Australia are countries that cherish creativity and advocate innovation. With a sound foundation of cooperation and high complementarity, China-Australia exchanges and cooperation in science and technology enjoy huge potentials. Looking forward to the future, China is willing to work with Australia to actively promote practical cooperation in science and technology, so that more results of cooperation will bring benefits to our two countries and peoples, making more contributions to the development of science and technology of the whole world and advancement of well-beings of the entire humankind.
