In December 2021, the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly adopted by consensus the Beijing Winter Olympic Truce Resolution, which was co-sponsored by Jamaica and other 172 Member States. This fully demonstrates the international community’s wide and firm support for the Olympic Spirit and the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.
2021年12月，第76届联合国大会协商一致通过北京冬奥会奥林匹克休战决议，牙买加和其他172个会员国参与共提，这充分体现了国际社会对奥林匹克精神和2022年北京冬奥会的广泛和坚定支持。
We are just 12 days away from the opening of the Beijing Winter Olympics. The whole world is looking forward to this moment. China is well ready! Beijing is well prepared! All the 12 competition venues have been completed on time with high quality. Two editions of the Playbook on pandemic response have been released to ensure the health and safety of all participants. Currently, the trial run of the Beijing 2022 Games-time closed loop system launched earlier this month has operated smoothly and effectively. With the support and cooperation of all parties, China is fully confident to present a streamlined, safe and splendid Winter Olympics to the world.
再过12天北京冬奥会就将开幕，全世界都在期待这一刻的到来。中国已做好准备。北京已准备就绪。北京冬奥会所有12个竞赛场馆已按时高质量完工。为确保所有参与者的健康安全，北京冬奥会已发布两版《防疫手册》。本月初启动的赛时闭环管理试运行目前进展顺利有效。在各方的支持和配合下，中方完全有信心向世界奉献一届简约、安全、精彩的冬奥盛会。
Beijing Winter Olympics is convened at a critical moment when all of us are fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. The Olympic spirit, which requires “mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play”, matches the spirit of building a community with a shared future for mankind proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping. Beijing 2022 presents a golden opportunity for us to further deepen solidarity and cooperation among people of all countries, inject more confidence and strength into the world plagued by the pandemic, and work together for a better future.
北京冬奥会在全球抗击新冠疫情的关键时刻举行。“团结友爱、公平竞争、相互理解”的奥林匹克精神与习近平主席提出的构建人类命运共同体理念高度契合。北京冬奥会为我们提供了黄金机遇，去深化各国人民间团结合作，为饱受疫情困扰的世界注入更多信心和力量，携手开创更加美好的未来。
Jamaica is a superpower in sports with many famous and great athletes who yielded amazing and historic achievements at Summer Olympics. At the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Usain Bolt commanded global attention by breaking the men’s 100M World Record and also made Jamaica famous throughout China. All the Chinese people cheered for him and shared the glory and happiness with Jamaican people. Jamaica could also be proud of its achievements at Winter Olympics. In 1988, Jamaica’s bobsleigh team made history by becoming the first team from the Caribbean region to compete at the Winter Olympics, inspiring the iconic film “Cool Runnings” and encouraging people around the world to pursue their dreams, despite the challenges.
牙买加是体育强国。很多著名伟大的牙买加运动员在夏季奥运会上成绩斐然。尤塞恩·博尔特在2008年北京奥运会上打破男子100米世界纪录，举世瞩目，也让牙买加在中国更知名。中国人民为博尔特庆贺并与牙买加人民共同分享荣誉和喜悦。牙买加在冬季奥运会上也取得过傲人成就。1988年，牙买加雪车队创造历史，成为加勒比地区首支参加冬奥会的队伍，催生了著名电影《冰上轻驰》（Cool Runnings）并激励了很多人勇敢追求并实现自己的梦想。
Recently, Jamaica made histories with three bobsleigh teams heading to Beijing Winter Olympics and Mr. Benjamin Alexander to become Jamaica’s first Alpine skier at the Winter Olympics. We wish Jamaican athletes make history again in Beijing since 2008 and make more histories in the future. Just as Prime Minister Andrew Holness said, “Wi likkle but wi tallawah”.
近日，牙买加再次创造多项冬奥会历史。牙买加运动员获得北京冬奥会三个雪车项目参赛资格，本杰明·亚历山大成为牙买加首位获得冬奥会高山滑雪项目参赛资格的运动员。我们祝愿牙买加运动员在2008年北京奥运会后在北京再创佳绩，并在未来创造更多历史。正如牙买加总理安德鲁·霍尔尼斯所说：“我们虽小，但我们很强大”。
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Jamaica. China is ready to work with Jamaica to enhance bilateral cooperation in various fields including sports so as to deepen our traditional friendship and people-to-people exchanges, bring more benefits to our two countries and peoples, and push forward our Strategic Partnership to a new level.
今年是中牙建交50周年。中方愿同牙方一道，加强两国在体育等各领域合作，深化两国传统友谊和人文交流，为两国和两国人民带来更多福祉，共同推动中牙战略伙伴关系迈上新台阶。
As members of the Jamaican delegation will set off soon for the wonderful journey to China, I wish all of them a safe, smooth and spectacular journey and great success at the Winter Olympics. The Spring Festival, or Chinese Lunar New Year is around the corner, I also wish all Jamaican brothers and sisters and overseas Chinese in Jamaica Happy New Year, good health and every success in the Year of the Tiger!
