July 1st 2021 makes the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC). To better understand China, it is essential to better understand the CPC first. I hope this article will help everyone obtain a comprehensive and objective understanding of the CPC, the largest ruling party in the world with more than 91.9 million members.

The CPC is a party that represents the interests of all the Chinese people and is fully endorsed by its people. The CPC is composed of advanced Chinese elements. Since its founding on July 1st, 1921, the Party has set its original aspiration as to seek happiness for the Chinese people and rejuvenation for the Chinese nation, and has always represented the fundamental interests of the overwhelming majority of the Chinese people. The leadership of the CPC is not self-proclaimed, but is chosen by history and its people. The Chinese nation was thrown almost to the brink of extinction as a result of persistent aggression by foreign powers since the year of 1840. To save the nation, our forefathers explored and exhausted almost all political models available at the time, and yet all ended up in failure. The CPC emerged as the times require and was given a historical task to save the Chinese nation from subjugation.
中国共产党是代表全体中国人民利益、得到人民衷心拥护的政党。中国共产党由中国先进分子组成，自1921年7月1日成立之日起，他就将为中国人民谋幸福、为中华民族谋复兴作为自身使命，始终代表最广大人民根本利益。中国共产党的领导地位不是自封的，而是历史与人民的选择。1840年以来，中国不断遭受外国列强入侵，一度濒临亡国灭种的边缘。为了救亡图存，中国人民尝试了人类几乎所有的政治模式，但均以失败告终。中国共产党应运而生，肩负起拯救民族危亡的历史重任。
Over the past century, the Party has united and led the Chinese people through an extremely hard and bitter struggle to establish a new China, set up a socialist system, push ahead with socialist construction, implement reform and opening up. Under this circumstance, a right path was found to success and development, a path of socialism with Chinese characteristics. The CPC always puts the people at the very center of its hearts and always upholds its fundamental tenet of wholeheartedly serving the people. The opinion poll conducted by many Western research institutes such as Harvard University has shown that the approval and satisfaction rating of the CPC and the Chinese government is as high as over 90%.
100年来，中国共产党带领中国人民经过艰苦卓越的斗争建立了新中国，确立了社会主义制度，推进社会主义建设，实行改革开放，找到了一条成功的发展道路，即中国特色社会主义。中国共产党始终坚持以人民为中心，以全心全意为人民服务为宗旨，也因此赢得广大中国人民的衷心拥护。哈佛大学等多家外国机构民调结果显示，中国共产党和中国政府在中国民众中的支持率和满意度高达90%以上。
The CPC is a party that leads the Chinese people to create “miracle”. Under the leadership of the CPC, China has undergone an earth-shaking change, ushering in an era for the Chinese people to stand up and become richer and stronger. China has realized industrialization in just a few decades, which took developed Western countries several centuries. China now has the most complete modern industrial system in the world, and becomes the second largest economy and the biggest trader in goods. China’s GDP has risen from 30 billion US dollars in 1950 to 14.7 trillion US dollars in 2020, an increase of nearly 490 times.
中国共产党是带领中国人民创造“奇迹”的政党。在中国共产党领导下，中国面貌发生了翻天覆地的变化，迎来从站起来、富起来到强起来的飞跃。中国仅用几十年时间就走完西方发达国家几百年走过的工业化历程，建立起世界上门类最全的现代工业体系，成为世界第二大经济体、第一大货物贸易国。中国国内生产总值由1950年建国之初的300亿美元增长到2020年的14.7万亿美元，增长近490倍。
Today, China has successfully built a well-off society in an all-round way as the middle-income population in China is over 400 million and as many as 850 million people have emerged from poverty. In 2020, China’s per capita national income exceeded 10,000 US dollars, an increase of more than 140 times from the early period after the founding of the People’ Republic of China. China’s life expectancy has increased from 35 in 1949 to 77.3 in 2019, much higher than the world’s average. China now has put in place the world’s biggest systems of education, social security, medical care and community-based institutions of democracy. In the fight against COVID-19, China has taken various measures to take the lead in bringing the epidemic under control and achieve a head start in business reopening, thus accomplishing a great victory in containing the spread of the virus. China’s miracle of development has attracted worldwide attention and has been highly praised by the international community.
中国成功使8.5亿多人摆脱贫困，中等收入群体超过4亿人，全面建成小康社会。2020年中国人均国民收入超过1万美元，比建国之初增长140多倍，中国居民预期寿命由建国初期的35岁提高到77.3岁，远高于世界平均水平。中国还建立起世界上最大规模的教育体系、社保体系、医疗体系和基层民主体系。在抗击新冠肺炎斗争中，中国多措并举，率先控制了疫情、率先复工复产，取得了抗击疫情的伟大胜利。中国的发展“奇迹”举世瞩目，得到国际社会高度评价。
The CPC is a party that upholds the truth, strives unremittingly, advances with times and stays vibrant and resilient. The CPC has firm ideals and beliefs, and is good at applying Marxism to China’s realities and adapting the theory to the Chinese context. Thanks to its constant theoretical innovations, the Party has formed its theories, guidelines and policies with Chinese characteristics. The CPC is good at learning and using the successful experience of other countries, always maintains vigor and high morale, and always stands at the forefront of the trend of the times. The Party attaches great importance to enhance its ability. It has strict discipline, closely-knit organization and efficient mechanism, as well as strong abilities to lead, to unite, to organize and to execute. Moreover, the Party always faces up to its own problems and mistakes, and has the courage to reform itself and the ability to correct its errors. The Party has constantly improved its working style and resolutely opposed all forms of corruption. As a result, the CPC has survived a century of ups and downs, maintained the Party’s purity and advanced nature, continued to grow and develop, and become the backbone of its 1.4 billion people.
中国共产党是坚持真理、不懈奋斗、与时俱进、永葆活力的政党。中国共产党具有坚定的理想信念，善于将马克思主义与中国实际相结合，将马克思主义中国化，不断推进理论创新，形成具有中国特色的路线、方针和政策。始终保持蓬勃朝气、昂扬斗志，善于学习借鉴各国成功经验，始终站在时代潮流最前列。中国共产党高度重视自身建设，具有严明纪律、严密组织和高效机制，有着强大的领导力、凝聚力、组织力、执行力，敢于正视自身问题和错误，拥有自我革命的勇气和自我纠偏的能力，不断改进作风，坚决反对一切腐败行为。正因如此，中国共产党历经百年风雨而不倒，始终保持自身的纯洁性、先进性，持续发展壮大，成为14亿中国人民的主心骨。
The CPC is a party that dedicated to promoting world peace and development. The CPC has always pursued an independent foreign policy of peace, and upholds that all countries are equal, irrespective of size, strength, and wealth. Besides, the Party firmly preserves world peace and stability, upholds international equity and justice, sticks to peaceful development and never seeks hegemony. For the last 70-plus years since the founding of the People’s Republic, China has never started a war or encroached upon a single inch of foreign soil. China is the only country that has codified peaceful development in its constitution. China has delineated and demarcated boundaries with 12 of its 14 land neighbors through peaceful negotiations, and has pledged to seek negotiated settlement regarding outstanding disputes over territory and maritime rights and interests. China is the second largest contributor to the UN, and the largest troop contributor of peacekeeping operations among the permanent members of the UN Security Council.
中国共产党是致力于促进世界和平发展的政党。中国共产党始终奉行独立自主的和平外交政策，坚持国家无论大小、贫富、强弱一律平等，坚定维护世界和平稳定，主持国际公道正义，坚持和平发展，永不称霸。新中国成立70多年来，中国从未主动挑起一场战争，从未侵占别国一寸土地，并成为世界上唯一将和平发展写进宪法的国家。中国坚持通过和平谈判与14个陆地邻国中的12个完成了划界勘界，对于仍然存在的领土和海洋权益争议，中国承诺通过谈判协商解决。中国是联合国第二大出资国和安理会常任理事国中派遣维和人员最多的国家。
General Secretary Xi Jinping, from a global perspective, puts forward the concept of building a global community of shared future, building a new model of international relations, and jointly promoting Belt and Road Initiative. Besides, he also announces that China aims to peak carbon dioxide emissions before 2030 and strive to achieve carbon neutrality before 2060. During the COVID-19 pandemic, China has provided more than 300 million doses of vaccines and a huge number of medical protective materials to the world, making an important contribution to the building of a global community of health for all.
习近平总书记从全球视野提出构建人类命运共同体、构建新型国际关系的理念和共建“一带一路”倡议，并代表中国做出二氧化碳排放力争于2030年前达到峰值、努力争取2060年实现碳中和的承诺。面对全球新冠肺炎疫情，中国向全球提供了3亿多剂疫苗和数量庞大的医疗防护物品，为共建人类卫生健康共同体做出重要贡献。
What system a country may adopt should be decided by its own people. Countries differ in history, culture and social system. Thus, different social systems should not become an excuse to make countries rivals, nor cause an obstruction to mutually beneficial cooperation. China will stick to the system and development path it has chosen and, at the same time, fully respect the independent choices of other countries. China will never export its system or engage in systemic competition. After 100 years of unremitting struggle, the CPC has profoundly changed the fate and future of China and the Chinese nation, and the direction and format of world development. Looking ahead, the Communist Party of China will add a new and exciting chapter in the journey of realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and promoting human progress.
一个国家实行什么样的制度，应由各国人民决定，各国历史文化和社会制度不同，不应成为竞争对手的借口和实现互利合作的障碍。中国将坚持自己选择的制度和发展道路，同时也充分尊重其他国家的自主选择，决不搞制度输出和制度竞争。中国共产党经过100年不懈奋斗，深刻改变了中国和中华民族的前途和命运，也深刻影响了世界形势和国际格局。展望未来，中国共产党将在实现中华民族伟大复兴和促进人类进步的征程中谱写新的精彩篇章。
