Ushering in a New Chapter in China-Somalia Friendly Cooperation

As we enter the year 2021, we look back at the past year, where Unprecedented Global Changes and a Once-in-a-Century Pandemic are intertwined, and we have worked together in solidarity and cooperation to overcome challenges. Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the 12th BRICS Summit, the 27th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting, and the 15th G20 Leaders’ Summit, the High-Level Meeting to Commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the United Nations in Succession, and delivered a series of important speeches and made clear to the world a series of major versions and propositions of China. President Xi Jinping and President Mohamed exchanged congratulatory messages on the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries and jointly planned the development of bilateral relations.
President Xi Jinping called on all parties to jointly build a community of health for all, uphold the vision of people-centered development, put people first and life first, stressed that solidarity and cooperation are the most powerful weapon for the international community to defeat COVID-19, and called on all parties to actively support the World Health Organization (WHO) in playing a key role. We are glad to see that Somalia attaches great importance to epidemic prevention and control. China has made great efforts to provide support to Somalia and Somalia has achieved positive results in its fight against the epidemic.
President Xi Jinping put forward the Chinese proposals to promote world economic recovery, with in line with the China’s successful practice in coordinating epidemic prevention and control with economic and social development and taking the lead in resuming work and production and economic growth, China adheres to the open, inclusive and green development, safeguards the World Trade Organization (WTO) as the foundation of the multilateral trading system, to promote poverty reduction and development using trade, helps developing countries better integrate into the global market , to develop a broader benefit people. We are glad to see that Somalia’s economy has been developing steadily in recent years, with the emergence of small and medium-sized enterprises, huge potential in ICT industry and digital economy, and mobile payment ranking among the top in Africa.
President Xi Jinping has proposed a vision of global governance based on extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, which should adhere to multilateralism, openness, inclusiveness, mutually beneficial cooperation and advance with the times, uphold the authority and status of the United Nations, abide by the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and uphold the international order based on international law. We will resolutely uphold the rules-based, transparent, non-discriminatory, open and inclusive multilateral trading system, promote free trade, safeguard fair competition, safeguard the rights, interests and space of developing countries for development, and improve their representativeness and right to speak. We are glad to see that Somalia, with the support of the UN and the international community, has made remarkable achievements in peaceful development and made positive contributions to regional peace, stability and development.
President Xi President put forward the developing countries is a positive and constructive force in international affairs, the developing countries should respect each other sovereignty and territorial integrity, respect their choose according to their own national conditions of social system, economic model and development path, non-interference in each other internal affairs, maintaining international justice, overcoming the epidemic impact, realizing common development. We are pleased to see that Somalia has formulated its Ninth National Economic Plan, made efforts to overcome the impact of the epidemic and gradually resume development and achieve growth.
President Xi Jinping pointed out that China’s new development paradigm is to inject more lasting impetus into the stable recovery of the world economy, to better connect the domestic and international markets, to build a new system of an open economy at a higher level, and to open up to the outside world in a wider scope, in a wider range and at a deeper level. China is ready to cooperate with all countries on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit, share development opportunities. China will work to pursue high-quality Belt and Road cooperation with its partners, and seek greater complementarity between the development strategies and connectivity plans of regions and countries concerned. China will further harmonize policies, rules and standards with BRI partners, and deepen effective cooperation with them on infrastructure, industry, trade, scientific and technological innovation, public health and people-to-people exchange. Together, we will make the Belt and Road a model cooperation, health, recovery and growth and deepen cooperation on green development. We are glad to see that Somalia is working hard to turn its resource potential into development achievements, and taking advantage of its regional economic and geographical advantages, is committed to strengthening regional connectivity, actively advancing regional integration and building an African Free Trade area, and achieving the Agenda 2063 of the African Union.
The new year has already begun. The world has entered a new year. In the new year, China and Somalia will continue to strengthen friendly relations, actively push forward pragmatic and effective cooperation in all fields and write new chapters for the benefit of the two countries and peoples.
