首先我代表中国驻爱尔兰使馆，对田学军副部长一行访问爱尔兰表示欢迎，对田副部长访爱取得的丰硕成果表示祝贺。田副部长在中爱建交40周年之际率中国教育部代表团访问爱尔兰，充分表明中国政府对中爱关系的高度重视以及进一步扩大中爱教育与人文等各领域务实合作的真诚意愿。
First of all, on behalf of the Chinese Embassy, I would like to extend a warm welcome to Vice-Minister Tian Xuejun on his visit to Ireland and my hearty congratulations on the bountiful results so far achieved by the Chinese education delegation. The fact that Vice-Minister Tian has led a delegation from the Ministry of Education to visit Ireland and to hold the 5th Meeting of the China-Ireland Joint Working Group on Education with the Department of Education and Skills fully manifests the importance the Chinese government attaches to China-Ireland relations and its sincere willingness to further expand cooperation in education and culture between our two countries.
都柏林大学孔子学院是中爱语言文化交流合作的典范，在中文与中国文化的教学与研究方面成果显著，由中、爱两国政府和都柏林大学共同出资建设的都柏林大学孔子学院旗舰大楼在全球独一无二，这一成功的项目凝聚了中爱双方领导人和两国各界友好人士的远见和智慧，在此，我特别要对迪克斯校长和爱方团队表示崇高的敬意和诚挚的感谢。都柏林大学孔子学院所取得的成就，是中爱关系不断深入发展结出的硕果，也是在中国教育部、爱尔兰教育与技能部、国家汉办、都柏林大学以及中国人民大学的共同合作下，王黎明和张伟院长带领全体孔院教师和志愿者辛勤工作的成果。都柏林大学院成为全球示范孔院实至名归，当之无愧。我相信，通过我们共同努力，中爱友谊与交流一定会不断巩固发展，中爱语言文化和教育交流与合作前景将更加光明。
A paragon of exchanges and cooperation in language and culture between China and Ireland, the UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland well deserves the title of Global Model Confucius Institute. Over the years it has made remarkable achievements in the teaching and research of Chinese language and culture. The flagship building of the UCD Confucius Institute, jointly funded by the governments of China and Ireland as well as UCD, is unique in the world. This successful project embodies the vision and wisdom of leaders at all levels and friendly endeavors of all sides. Here, I would especially like to express my sincere reverence and gratitude to President Deeks and your team for your consistent commitment and dedication. The success of the UCD Confucius Institute is the outcome of the continuous development of China-Ireland relations. Along with the hard work of Director Mr. Liming Wang, Chinese Director Mr. Zhang Wei, faculty members and volunteers of the Confucius Institute, those achievements are also attained through the support from the Chinese Ministry of Education, the Irish Department of Education and Skills, Hanban, UCD and Renmin University of China. I am confident that through our joint efforts, the friendship and exchanges between China and Ireland will continue to consolidate and develop, and the prospects for education collaboration between us will certainly become brighter.
应该说，都柏林大学孔子学院的发展，还反映了爱尔兰民众喜爱中文和中国文化，对推进中爱友谊与合作存有广泛共识。孔子学院因应了爱尔兰人民学习中文、了解中国的日益增长的需要，中方各界愿意也非常高兴为促进双方在相关领域的平等交流和互学互鉴做出我们的努力和贡献。
It should be noted that the success of the UCD Confucius Institute also reflects the wish and demand of the Irish people to learn Chinese and understand the Chinese culture, and the broad consensus across the Irish society on promoting friendship and cooperation with China. We for our part are more than ready to make positive response and spare no effort in this mutually beneficial endeavor.
女士们，先生们，孔子学院是中国语言教学的平台，更是中国文化与中华文明与包括爱尔兰在内的世界各国语言文化以及其他文明交流互鉴的平台。孔子曰，“教学相长”。爱尔兰人民和中国人民同为勤劳、智慧、善良的民族，爱尔兰历史与文化之悠久，堪与古希腊和古埃及相比，其与中国一样有着灿烂的语言和传统文字与文化，爱尔兰对欧洲文明乃至世界文明做出的独特贡献在很大意义上能够对中国的语言、文化和发展有所贡献，值得各国学习与借鉴。进入全球化时代，爱尔兰人民又励志改革开放，立足欧洲面向全球，推进新的科技革命与文化进步，在经济科技发展上走在世界前列，并以主动姿态，大力深化与中国的友好交往与合作。我们很高兴地看到，爱尔兰教育与技能部已发布“外语教育十年发展战略”，将中文从2020年起列入爱尔兰高中课程，并使中文在2022年正式成为爱尔兰高考科目之一。这将翻开中文海外教学历史性的一页，体现出爱尔兰政府和人民的远见和开放，我们对此高度赞赏。
Ladies and gentlemen, the Confucius Institute serves not only as a platform for the teaching and learning of the Chinese language, but also as a platform for interaction and integration between the Chinese culture and other cultures. As Confucius put it, “Teaching and learning are mutually enhancing.” The Irish and the Chinese people are both hardworking, intelligent and good. Ireland has a long history with a splendid language and culture. It would benefit us immensely to draw upon Ireland’s contribution to European and even to the world civilization. We are delighted to see that according to the “Strategy for Foreign Languages in Education 2017-2026” of the Department of Education and Skills, the Chinese language will be included in the Irish High School curriculum from 2020 and will officially become a leaving certificate subject in 2022. It is much welcome and laudable historic hallmark in the teaching and learning of Chinese as a foreign language, to which we are most ready to make our contributions.
本月初我们刚刚迎来中国农历己亥猪年。中国传统中，“猪”象征着祥和与安康。中文中象征幸福美满的“家”在结构上就是屋顶庇护下的一头小猪，而“逐梦”中的“逐”字就是一只正在奋力奔跑的猪。借此机会我祝愿大家事业发达，幸福安康，祝愿中爱双方在两国建交40周年之际抓住机遇，共同追逐和实现美好的梦想。最后祝田副部长一行访爱圆满成功！
We just ushered in the Chinese Lunar New Year of the Pig earlier this month. In the Chinese tradition, the zodiac of “pig” indicates fullness, auspiciousness and common prosperity. The Chinese character of “Jia” (home), connoting happiness and contentment, is structured as a piglet sheltered by the roof of a house. The Chinese character of “Zhu” (pursue), as in “pursuing a dream”, is composed of two parts, a piglet and a posture of striding. I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all prosperity and happiness. I am sure that both China and Ireland will seize the opportunity of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our two countries to realize our beautiful dreams. Finally, let me wish Vice Minister Tian’s visit to Ireland a consummate success.
