Happy Chinese New Year! Welcome to 2018 Chinese Spring Festival Temple Fair in Zambia. In a few days, on February 16, we will usher in the Chinese Spring Festival which is the most important traditional festival in China. I wish to take this opportunity to extend my New Year greetings to my fellow countrymen and women representing the Chinese enterprises, institutions and Chinese community here and our Zambian friends. Happy New Year!
春节庙会在赞比亚连续举办过多届，已经成为展现中国文化的一个品牌，一场盛会，深受华人华侨和当地民众喜爱。大家通过庙会一睹中国文化风采，进而更好地了解中国文化。在此，请允许我向赞比亚华侨华人总会和相关侨社为筹备此次庙会所做的大量工作表示诚挚的感谢！
The Chinese Spring Festival Temple Fair in Zambia, successfully held for the last several years, has become an important event and Chinese cultural brand, which attracts more and more foreign friends and overseas Chinese, to experience the unique charm of Chinese culture and to better understand Chinese culture. I now wish to extend my appreciation to the Chinese community in Zambia for their active participation in this Temple Fair.

Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen:
2017年是中国极不平凡的一年。中国共产党第十九次代表大会胜利召开，中国经济保持平稳发展，GDP增长达6.9%。经济总量继续走在世界前列。我们成功举办了“一带一路”国际合作高峰论坛和金砖国家峰会，展现了中国引领世界经济和推动文明交流互鉴的负责任大国风采。今天的中国正在为实现国家富强、民族复兴、人民幸福的伟大“中国梦”而砥砺前行。
In 2017, China made extraordinary and significant achievements. The 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China was successfully concluded in Beijing. The Chinese economy maintained its steady growth by 6.9% and continued to play a lead role in the world economy. We successfully held the international cooperation summit forum on the “Belt and Road” initiative and the BRICS Summit, which demonstrated a responsible China leading the world economy and promoting the exchange of civilizations. Today China is forging ahead with the great “Chinese dream” of realizing the prosperity of the country, the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, and the happiness of the people.
2017年也是中赞关系取得丰硕成果的一年。两国高层交往频繁，中国国务委员王勇、外交部长王毅成功访赞，赞比亚副总统维纳、议长马蒂比尼先后访华。两国在国际和地区事务上相互支持，政治互信达到新的高度。中国支持赞比亚在促进地区共同发展、维护地区和平稳定方面发挥积极作用。赞方在台湾、南海等涉及中国核心利益上支持中国。在中非合作论坛约堡峰会框架下，双方经贸合作驶上快车道，贸易达到30亿，中国对赞投资持续增长，新增2亿多美元，一系列重点合作项目取得积极进展。两国在包括人文、教育、媒体等领域交流与合作日益密切，中赞友好民意基础更加巩固。
In 2017, China and Zambia enjoyed sound relations with rewarding great achievements. The exchange of high-level visits between our two countries remained frequent. China’s State Councilor His Excellency Mr. Wang Yong and Foreign Minister His Excellency Mr. Wang Yi paid successful visits to Zambia. Her Excellency Mme. Inonge Wina, Vice President of the Republic of Zambia and Rt. Hon. Justice Dr. Patrick Matibini, Speaker of the National Assembly, made fruitful trips to China respectively. China and Zambia have strengthened our mutual support on international and regional affairs and the mutual political trust has reached a new height. China supports Zambia’s efforts in playing a positive role on promoting regional common development and maintaining regional peace and security. Zambia supports China on the Taiwan and the South China Sea issues as well as other issues involving China’s core interests. Under the framework of the Johannesburg FOCAC Summit, the bilateral economic and trade cooperation between China and Zambia forged ahead on a fast track with a bilateral trade volume of 3 billion US dollars. China’s investment in Zambia has maintained a constant growth with an increase of over 200 million US dollars last year. A number of key cooperation projects have been making real progress. The bilateral cooperation in the fields of people-to-people exchanges, including media exchanges, and education was continuously strengthened, and the public support for China-Zambia friendship was further consolidated.
在赞华侨华人、中资企业是中赞关系发展的受益者，也是重要的参与者、支持者和推动者。长期以来，大家在实现自身发展的同时，不忘关心祖国发展，不忘回馈当地社会，不忘弘扬中华文化，为促进中赞各领域务实合作、增进两国人民友谊作出了重要贡献。我愿借此机会，代表使馆向大家的辛勤付出和努力表示衷心感谢。
All Chinese nationals and enterprises in Zambia are the beneficiaries of the development of the China-Zambia friendly relationship as well as important participants, supporters and promoters. For a long time, while making efforts to achieve their own development, they never forget to contribute to the development in China, to fulfill their social responsibility to the local communities, and to promote Chinese culture. They have made important contributions to the expansion of pragmatic cooperation in all fields and the enhancement of friendship between the peoples of the two countries. On behalf of the Embassy, I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to you for your hard work and contributions.

2018年是中国全面实施改革开放政策40周年，是全面落实中共十九大各项战略部署的开局之年，是决胜在2020年全面建成小康社会的关键一年。同时也是中非关系发展的大年，中非合作论坛峰会将在北京举行。对赞比亚来说，赞政府去年提出第七个五年发展规划，将在今后几年努力推进经济多元化发展战略。中赞双方不约而同聚焦发展，在几乎所有领域都有很强的互补性，这将为中赞各领域友好合作创造全新的机遇。我相信，在中赞两国领导人的关心下，在双方的共同努力下，中赞传统友谊一定能在新时代焕发出新的生机和活力，造福两国人民。
For China, 2018 will mark the 40th anniversary for comprehensively implementing the reform and opening policy. Meanwhile, 2018 will also mark the beginning for the full implementation of the strategic planning made by the 19th CPC National Congress and will be a crucial year for building a moderately prosperous society in all aspects by 2020. 2018 will also mark the new era for China-Africa relations. Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Beijing Summit will be held in September this year. As for Zambia, the Zambian government has adopted the 7th National Development Plan last year, and is working hard to promote the strategy of economic diversification in the New Year and beyond. Both China and Zambia have our focus on development, and both sides are highly complementary in terms of cooperation in almost all areas. I am confident that with the care of the leaders of the two countries and joint efforts of both sides, new vigor and vitality will be injected into the traditional friendship between China and Zambia in the new era and benefit the two peoples.
