Remarks by Ambassador Yao Wen at the Welcome Reception

各位尊敬的来宾，各界友人，

女士们，先生们，

大家晚上好！

Distinguished Guests,

Dear Friends,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

 

感谢各位莅临我的到任招待会。首先，我谨向到场的各位朋友表示热烈欢迎。

Very good evening! First of all, I would like to extend my warmest welcome to all friends presents this evening.

 

非常荣幸来到美丽的“孟加拉湾明珠”，出任中国第十六任驻孟加拉国大使。我对孟加拉国的美丽富饶和淳朴民风早有耳闻，也十分钦佩孟过去十余年取得的跨越式发展成就。到任两个多月以来，我与孟社会各界友人，坦诚交流、深入沟通，真切感受到孟社会各界对华的真挚友好感情，以及对发展中孟交流合作的热切期盼，这让我感触良多。最深的有三点：

It is my great pleasure and privilege to be assigned to Bangladesh, the Pearl of the Bay of Bengal, to serve as the 16th Ambassador of China to Bangladesh. I have been yearning for this beautiful and rich land as well as its kind and honest people and also admiring Bangladesh’s leapfrog development achieved in the last fifteen years, which ensures Bangladesh as one of the most successful countries in Asia. Since I landed in Dhaka two months ago, I have conducted deep and delightful communication with friends from all walks of life, from which I have felt their sincerity and affection towards China, as well as their eager desires for promoting exchanges and cooperation between China and Bangladesh. Therefore, my thoughts and feelings for our bilateral relations could be summarized as the follows:

 

第一，中孟是天然的合作伙伴。中孟同为人口大国和发展中国家，没有任何悬而未决的争端和问题，也不存在任何历史包袱。作为近邻，中孟两国人民有着天然的亲近感和相似的世界观、价值观。上世纪五十年代，国父两次访华，留下深刻印象，写下了《我眼中的新中国》一书，让中孟友好深入人心。历史和现实都为两国关系注入了强大动力。

Firstly, China and Bangladesh are natural cooperation partners. Both China and Bangladesh are developing countries with a huge population and there are no unresolved disputes or historical burdens between us. As close neighbors, the people of the two countries enjoy a natural sense of intimacy and similar ideas and values. In the 1950s, the founding father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman visited China twice. He was so much impressed by what he witnessed in the journey, while he returned he wrote a travelogue entitled as “New China as I saw”, infusing the kind and warm feeling towards China deep in the minds and hearts of Bangladeshi people.

 

第二，中孟合作造福两国人民。经贸项目合作是两国关系的基础和支柱，一大批道路、桥梁、电站、港口项目建成，正在改变孟加拉国的风貌，为孟提供了超过百万个就业岗位，促进了孟经济发展，改善了民生福祉，我对此感到自豪。更令人欣喜的是，数十万孟加拉民众在参与建设过程中增长了财富，有的甚至收获了美好爱情，改变了自己的命运，两国人民越来越多地参与到农业、科技、教育、文化、艺术等青年领域的合作中去，增进了民众之间的了解与友情。

Secondly, China-Bangladesh cooperation improves well-beings of our two peoples. The cooperation on economy, trade and mega projects serves as the pillar of bilateral relations. A good number of roads, bridges, power plants, ports and other infrastructure projects have been completed, reshaping the landscape of Bangladesh, providing more than one million job opportunities and promoted socio-economic development as well as people’s livelihood in Bangladesh. What is even more gratifying is that hundreds of thousands of Bangladeshi people have developed self-reliance by working for those projects, and some even be rewarded with harvest of love and changed their own destiny.

 

第三，中孟关系潜力无限。中国已开启全面建设社会主义现代化国家的新征程，孟加拉国也在为实现“2041愿景”和“金色孟加拉”梦想而不懈努力。相同的目标、相似的愿景，我完全有理由相信，中孟关系将成为发展中国家相互理解信任、相互帮助支持的典范。

Thirdly, the potential of China-Bangladesh relations is unlimited. China has embarked on a new journey towards a modern socialist country in all respects while Bangladesh is striving with no effort spared for the splendid dream of “Sonar Bangla” by working on the country’s Vision 2041. Both countries have the same goals and similar visions and I am fully convinced that China-Bangladesh relations will set a good example for developing countries to understand, trust and support each other.

我们已经基本克服新冠疫情的冲击，生活正在恢复正常，从三月开始，中孟之间每天都有航班运行，两国之间将有更多的高层访问、人员往来，经贸投资，文化艺术交流。中孟也将在国际事务上携手合作，为这个充满不确定性的世界注入更多稳定性、确定性。我将同孟加拉国同事和朋友一道，为实现各自美好的梦想而奋斗，迎接中孟关系更加美好的明天。

Last three years are difficult for all of us due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, we are seeing the light at the end of tunnel. Since March, flights between China and Bangladesh have been operating on daily basis, and therefore there will be more high-level visits, people-to-people contact, economic, trade and investment cooperation, cultural and artistic exchanges between our two countries. China and Bangladesh will also closely cooperate and coordinate on regional and multilateral affairs so as to inject more stability and certainty into this uncertain and unstable world. An old saying in China goes as ‘A year’s plan starts with spring’. Now it is the season of spring in Bangladeshi calendar and our relations are also ushering in ‘Spring’ with new vigor and vitality. So let’s roll up our sleeves together and kick off to realize our respective dreams and embrace an even brighter future of China-Bangladesh relations.
