【例】Since fertilizer is in short supply at present, we regret that we cannot improve on delivery terms.

由于目前化肥供应短缺，很抱歉交货条件不能再好了（主要指交货期不能再提前了）。

【1】改进，改善，改进的东西

 

①improvement of sth表示“某事物的改进”。

【例】Within the validity period of the technology transfer agreement, we shall provide the joint venture with the latest improvement of the technology and related information free of charge.

在技术转让协议有效期限内，我们将向合资企业无偿提供该技术最新改进资料及有关的信息。

 

②improvement in sth表示“在……方面有改进”（仅涉及某一方面）。

【例】We have made much improvement in the quality of our electric fans.

我们电风扇的质量已有很大改进。

 

③improvement on sth表示“在……基础上有改进”（对二事物做比较）。

【例】We think you should see in these machines a marked improvement on the old makes.

我们认为，从这些机器中你方可以知道它是由旧式样做了明显改进而成的。

 

【2】提高，增加

 

【例】World cotton consumption for 1998/1999 continued to show improvement and reached… million bales.

1998/1999年度世界棉花的消耗量有所增加，可能达到……万包。
