haggle

（在价格、条件上）争论不休

 

常接用介词over或about。句式：haggle over [about] sth (with sb)。

【例】We never haggle about principles.

我们决不拿原则做交易。

 

half

【1】一半，一半的

 

①【例】The goods can be delivered in the second half of April, 2002.

可在2002年4月下半月交货。

 

②half a [ an]和a half意思相同，皆正确。

【例】The sales meeting lasted a half hour.

销售会议开了半个钟头。

 

③Two tons and a half与two and a half tons意思相同。注意：one and a half后面习惯接用复数的名词和单数的动词。

【例】One and a half tons remains to be shipped.

还有一吨半等待装船。

 

④half作主语时，half of后面的名词若是单数，则谓语用单数动词；若是复数，则谓语用复数动词。

【例】Half of the ordered instruments were dispatched by air freight on July 13.

所订的仪器，已有一半于7月13日由空运发出。

 

⑤half the shipment与half of the shipment意思相同。

【例】Half of the shipment has arrived in good condition.

运到的货物，有一半情况良好。

 

【2】half and half一半对一半，双方各一半

 

【例】The error was on both sides and I think the loss ought to be shared by both parties, let us say, half and half.

两方面都有错误。我认为损失应由双方承担，就算各承担一半吧！
