【1】过度，超额，过量

 

后面可用of、over等介词引导的短语作修饰语。

【例】This excess of losses over profits will ruin the business.

亏损大于盈利会使企业垮掉的。

 

【2】in excess of超过

 

①【例】Party A agrees to pay Party B a 4 percent commission on the purchase amount in excess of $1 000.

购货金额超过1000元时，甲方同意支付乙方4%的佣金。

 

②in excess of本身可带修饰语。

【例】They have done business with us for amounts well in excess of £10 000 each quarter.

他们同我们做生意，每个季度的金额大大超出1万英镑。

【例】We’ll have to pay the excess postage on this letter.
