【例】If you place orders for a quantity exceeding 5 000 dozen, a discount of 3% will be given.

注：exceeding相当于over，a quantity exceeding 5000 dozen数量在5000打以上，5000打本身不在内；而a quantity not exceeding 5000 dozen数量不超过5000打，则5000打本身在内。

②可接用短语、that从句、wh-从句等。

【例】We can deliver the goods at any time next year except in January.

除1月份外，我们可在明年任何时间交货。

用于表示修正句中所说明的情况。

【例】We know nothing about that firm except for the fact that [except that] it is a commission agent.
