①常用作表语，后面接用in。句式：be engaged in sth。

【例】We have been engaged in this business for the past 20 years.

我们20年来一直经营这项业务。

②be engaged in和engage in的含义大致相同，区别在于前者表示状态，后者表示动作。例如：

【例】He is engaged in trading.

他是搞贸易的。

【例】He engages in trading everyday.

他每天都搞贸易。

【2】债务

常用复数形式。

【例】They found difficulty in meeting their engagements.
