【1】应付款，费用

 

仅用复数形式。

【例】The shipowners should pay light dues, extra quarantine dues as well as all ship’s disbursements.

船方应付灯塔税、附加检疫税以及一切有关船的花费。

 

【2】适当的

 

用于名词前作定语。

【例】We believe you will give the matter your due consideration and grant us a concession in price.

我们相信你方会适当考虑此事，并减让价格。

 

【3】（船、车等）预订应到的，约定的

 

①句中用作表语。

【例】The time of shipment falls due next month.

下个月就是应到的装船期。

 

②表语due后可接用不定式。句式：be due to do sth。

【例】The steamer is due to sail [arrive] on Friday.

该轮定于星期五起航（到港）。

 

③置于名词的后面，引起定语短语。

【例】The s.s. “peace” due Hong Kong, May 15th, will sail to schedule. (Hong Kong前省去了at)

原定于5月15日抵达香港的和平号轮将按照预定的时间起航。

 

【4】（款项）应支付的，（票据）应到期的

 

①用作句中表语。

【例】Your Invoice No.527 for US$5000 worth of goods supplied on 20th July is due for payment at the end of this month.

7月20日供应你方价值5000美元货物的第527号发票应于本月底付款。

 

②置于名词前作定语。

【例】Due date of each payment (is) to be the 60th day, after the issue of Bill of Lading of the carrying vessel.

每笔货款应付的到期日为运输船只签发提单日期后的第60天。

 

③多置于名词后，引起定语。

【例】I should appreciate an extension of 2 weeks for the payment of my bill of $5000 due (on) June l.

如蒙将6月1日到期的5000美元的我方汇票展期两星期付款，则十分感激。

 

【5】（货物等）应到期（装运）的

 

①接用介词for。

【例】Seventy per cent of the ships on order at the end of last year were due for delivery during 2003.

截至去年年底，造船订货中有70%的交货期是在2003年.

 

②接用不定式。

【例】We refer to our Order No.381 for 6 tons processed polyethylene due to be shipped at the end of this month.

本函想谈及第381号订单所订的6吨加工的聚乙烯问题，该货应于本月底装船。

 

【6】due to由于，因为

 

①用作表语。

【例】A thorough examination showed that the broken bags were due to improper packing.

彻底检查表明，破包是由于包装不善所致。

 

②置于名词后引起定语。

【例】Because of the exceptional demand for electric blankets due to the prolonged cold weather, we are at present out of stock of the make you wish to order.

由于持久的冷天气，电热毯的需求奇大，你方需要订购的制品，我们目前已无存货。

 

③due to原只能用于引出形容词性短语（adjectival phrase），不可用于引出状语。但近来用以引出状语的日渐增多。

【例】Due to lack of time and space, we have not been able to include all the commodities we can offer.

由于时间和篇幅有限，我们不能将我方能供应的商品完全列进去。

 

④due to本身还可以被副词修饰。修饰词可置于due to之前或插入其中。

【例】This was due entirely to negligence on the part of the warehouse managers.

这完全是由于仓库管理人员的疏忽所致。

 

【7】in due course (of time) = in due time = duly在适当的时候（常常指没有耽误的意思）

 

【例】If you find any stipulations therein disagreeable, please advise us in due time.

如对其中任何规定有异议，请及时告知。

【1】及时地

 

①【例】We are in receipt of your letter of 23rd October and have duly acted on your instructions.

10月23日来信收悉，贵方要求已及时照办。

 

②duly的语义含混，很陈旧，除契约中的文句外，应避免使用。下列句子是陈词滥调，更不宜使用。

【例】Thank you for your letter of July 10, contents of which have been duly noted.

谢谢6月10日来信，内容尽悉。

 

【2】适当地

 

【例】The Buyer is a corporation duly organized and validly existing under the laws of the People’s Republic of China.

买方是根据中华人民共和国法律经过正当程序成立而合法存在的公司。
