Is Sunday Really the Best Day of the Week

Crystal Stranaghan

Is Sunday your favourite day of the week?

For me, it is. There are lots of reasons why that’s the case. Not that I have anything against the other days of the week – they are all perfectly fine days in their own rights – but Sunday just tends to be the best. Here’s why…

No alarm clock. As a rule, we don’t set an alarm clock on Sunday. We wake up when we wake up. And when we wake up, there’s no particular hurry to get ourselves up and moving around. When I do feel motivated to get up before any else is stirring, then that time feels extra free. Any time before breakfast on a Sunday is always mine to do with as I please.

No schedule. Most often, our Sundays are unscheduled. We’ve been making a real effort to keep one day a week with either nothing, or just one fun thing scheduled into the day so that it’s mostly free and open for whatever seems like a good idea at the time.

Sunday Brunch. Gotta love brunch. Whether it’s an at home culinary adventure or heading out to our favourite breakfast place, on Sunday we usually go all in on the first meal of the day. Often that plan includes a stroll along the river to get to our favourite brunch place.

Creative time. I’m carefully cultivating the weekends as sacred time for my own creative efforts, and doing whatever I feel like to that end. Knitting, reading, writing, playing with design-work – whatever appeals. Saturdays often include social fun, cleaning up in anticipation of guests and little adventures about town, so the gentle quiet of a Sunday is the perfect place for creativity to come out and play.

Sunday is close to Monday. No, seriously. On Friday, you still have the whole weekend. On Saturday, you can still get to it on Sunday. But on Sunday? It’s do or die time. Monday’s coming, and that just makes every hour of Sunday that much sweeter.

And now – Happy Sunday. I wish you an amazing day filled with whatever you want. And brunch – whatever that looks like in your house.
